Brunel University of London and the Egyptian University of El Alamein Sign a Memorandum of Understanding to Enhance International Academic Cooperation

As part of strengthening educational relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Monday, May 19, 2025, between Brunel University of London and the Egyptian University of El Alamein (EUA) at the Egyptian Embassy in London.

The signing ceremony was attended by Professor Andrew Jones, Provost and President of Brunel University; Professor Trevor Hoy, Provost for Sustainability and International Affairs; and Professor Abdel Nasser Sayma, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Design, and Physical Sciences at Brunel University. Also present from the Egyptian University of El Alamein was Professor Khaled El-Fekki, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The meeting was also attended by the Egyptian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sherif Kamel; Dr. Rasha Hassan, the Egyptian Cultural Attaché in London; and Mr. Mark Howard, Director of the British Council in Egypt.

The Memorandum of Understanding aims to enhance academic cooperation between the two universities in the fields of education, scientific research, and student exchange, as well as to develop joint academic programs that contribute to enhancing the quality of higher education in Egypt and expanding the horizons of international partnerships for the Egyptian University of Alexandria.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Professor Andrew Jones, representing Brunel University, and Professor Khaled El-Fekki, representing the Egyptian University of Alexandria.

Brunel University is one of the leading British universities, ranked highly in international rankings, and is renowned for its academic excellence and leadership in the fields of engineering, science, and technology. Under this agreement, Brunel University will become one of the highest-ranked universities in the higher education sector in Egypt, strengthening the position of the Egyptian University of Alexandria as an institution that attracts partnerships with prestigious international universities. This academic partnership is expected to transform the programs offered at the Egyptian University of Alexandria, bringing them in line with international standards and enhancing students’ opportunities in the local and global job market.

This step comes as part of the Egyptian University of Alexandria’s commitment to supporting the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030 by providing high-quality education, promoting innovation, and building strategic partnerships with prestigious international academic institutions. The university seeks to be a key pillar in transforming El Alamein into a regional and global educational hub, with plans to forge more strong partnerships in the coming period, further strengthening its position as a leading institution in education and research in North Africa.
